Emerson Collective
2022
Elastic
Emerson Collective, spearheaded by Laurene Powell Jobs, is a dynamic organization dedicated to initiatives spanning education, immigration reform, the environment, media and journalism, and health. Annually, they host Demo Day, a conference spotlighting remarkable work in these crucial areas.
For Demo Day 22, I teamed up once again with Elastic to craft a title sequence and show package. Our foundation was rooted in the art and voice of Sister Corita Kent, paying homage to her groundbreaking contributions as an American artist and designer.
The animated show opener conveyed a powerful message, serving as an anthem for unity and a call to address the challenges we face today. Working closely with Nol Honig, I had the honor of shaping the look and guiding the design team towards a shared vision. I'm thrilled with how it turned out—a fantastic collaboration that unfolded over the span of about two months.
Introduction
I delved into various ideas and explored multiple routes, ranging from pure typography to intricate illustrated patterns. In the end, we settled on a curated selection of typography mantras that paid homage to some of Sister Corita’s most iconic pieces—even animating some of the actual pieces of art that were licensed by Emerson Collective for the event.

Outro Title Sequence
To wrap up the event, we opted for Sister Corita’s captivating pieces titled “Power Up.” Her work masterfully navigates the nuances of duality, capturing the powerful, often masculine, aesthetic of Pop art while offering a profound dialogue beyond the surface of grandiose, capital-driven images and a new consumerist identity. Choosing to conclude with one of her strong pieces, carrying a simple yet empowering message, felt like the perfect way to button up the event.
