Mrs. American Pie
2022
Elastic
Once again, my buddies at Elastic brought me in to join forces for a pitch, aiming to secure the title sequence for an upcoming AppleTV original series. This time, we set our sights on a show initially named “Mrs. American Pie,” which eventually evolved into the soon-to-be-released series, “Palm Royale.” Set in 1969, the storyline follows an ambitious woman's quest to bridge the gap between the haves and have-nots, seeking her place at America’s most exclusive, fashionable, and perilous table: Palm Beach high society.
Our main character, portrayed by the always-charming Kristen Wiig, is joined by stellar supporting performances from the likes of Carol Burnett, Allison Janney, and Laura Dern, to name a few. I crafted an immersive set of storyboards accompanied by key style frames, capturing a bold and vibrant illustrative animated journey that introduces viewers to the pivotal moments in the show. In addition to these visuals, I presented various playful options for the show title design during the pitch.
Style Frames
For the style, I envisioned a title sequence predominantly illustrated, incorporating vignettes that would unfold throughout the season, complemented by subtle collage elements to enhance the concept without being overly conspicuous. Opting for a lively and vibrant color palette, I drew inspiration from the fashion choices of the key characters. This not only infuses the sequence with a bright and optimistic tone but also mirrors the comedic essence of the show.
Logo Exploratory
When delving into the title layout for the show, I settled on a midcentury modern style that draws inspiration from the fashionable and architectural aesthetics of the show's era. My aim was to blend the playful nature of the letterforms with vibrant colors and patterns, reminiscent of the tropical tiki cocktails enjoyed by our main characters.
