Career Opportunity in Murder & Mayhem

Elastic brought me on board to contribute to a pitch for the main title sequence of an upcoming television show on Hulu, initially titled “Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem.” Eventually, the show underwent a title change to “Death and Other Details.” The storyline revolves around Imogene Scott, who, finding herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, becomes the prime suspect in a locked-room murder mystery. To prove her innocence, she reluctantly teams up with Rufus Cotesworth, the world’s greatest detective.
Set against the backdrop of a luxury cruise ship and starring Violett Beane and Mandy Patinkin, among others, the show promised a thrilling narrative. For the pitch, I opted for a grid of windows that could house textures, images, and typography. The typography would cleverly decode from jumbled letters into the titles of the actors, dropping hints about the mystery. This visual blend seamlessly mixed illustrated characters with photographs captured in exotic locations around the settings of the show.
